California: US Court Avoids Illegal Immigrant Conviction of Murder

ولاية كاليفورنيا : محكمة امريكية تجنب مهاجرا غير شرعي الإدانة بجريمة قتل
A jury in San Francisco, California, was unable to convict an illegal immigrant of a woman's murder in 2015 in an incident that highlighted the issue of preventing cross-border infiltration and building a wall on the southern border with Mexico to prevent illegal immigration.

Mexico's José Eniz Garcia Zarate fired on Kate Stenley when she was with her father. Prosecutors said he intended to kill her. The defense team said the incident was an unintentional incident. The defendant found a weapon lying on the ground and when he grabbed it, Stenley caught a bullet.

The jury found Zarate, who was deported five times, guilty of possession of a weapon, meaning he could serve a prison sentence of between 16 months and three years.

President Donald Trump described the verdict as "outrageous," adding: "No wonder Americans are very angry at illegal immigration."

Zarate was arrested on charges of illegally entering the country and later transferred to a San Francisco prison to face charges of selling marijuana dating back 20 years.

A few days later, the local police evacuated him after the plaintiffs were dropped, despite a request from the federal authorities to keep him in custody until he was deported.

Justice Minister Jeff Sessions said in a statement that San Francisco's decision to release the illegal immigrant killed Stenley, adding, "I urge the leaders of America's societies to reflect on the harm done to their citizens when they refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement personnel." Zarate.

The House of Representatives passed a bill in Kate's name in June that would impose a minimum five-year sentence on migrants who crossed the US border again after being deported.
