Democratic Senator Al Franken on his charge of harassment: I apologize

السيناتور الديموقراطي آل فرانكن حول اتهامه بالتحرش : أعتذر

Democratic Sen. Al Franken (Minnesota) apologized to "everyone who relied on him to defend women's rights" during his first appearance in Congress since a woman accused him of forcibly kissing her and touching her hand in spite of her will in 2006, as well as four other women who accused him of sexual misconduct.

Franken said that although he disagreed or did not remember the story of some of them, felt the need to respect the experiences of these women, adding that he will be more cautious in the future.

The congressman said he would cooperate with the congressional ethics committee, saying it would "take a long time to restore public confidence" and expressed willingness to present the findings of the commission's investigations to the public.

"I want to add something to the table" about sexual harassment that women face in many areas, Franken said.

Franken apologized to Allan Tweeden, who said the senator sexually harassed her when he was a comedian, about his "dishonest" behavior and said he felt "shame".

A series of allegations of sexual harassment have recently taken on a number of public faces, the first of which was a New York Times report accusing women of film producer Harvey Winstein of sexually assaulting them.
