The US State Department has issued a statement warning US citizens to travel to Saudi Arabia because of persistent threats from terrorist groups and the threat of ballistic missiles from Yemen.
"Terrorist threats continue to exist throughout Saudi Arabia, including in large cities such as Riyadh, Jeddah and Dhahran, and attacks can occur without warning," the State Department said in a statement posted on the website of the US diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia.
"Terrorist groups, including a sympathetic organization and allied groups, have been targeting the interests of the Saudi government, Western governments, mosques and other religious sites (Sunni and Shiite) and places frequented by citizens of the United States and other Western countries," she said.
"The violence caused by the conflict in Yemen continues to extend into Saudi territory," she said, noting that "last year the rebels launched a number of long-range missiles on Saudi Arabia, which are able to reach the outskirts of Riyadh and Jeddah, Determination to continue. "

It declared a travel ban for government employees and their families to travel to any area located 50 miles from the Saudi-Yemeni border, including Jizan and Najran.
