Video footage shows the effects of heavy smoke caused by the blast at the same time that the Civil Defense Forces continue to try to extinguish it.
The first explosion took place at around 10:15 am on Friday at the Verla International Cosmetics Factory, New Windsor police said. The firefighters, who had started the accident, said another explosion, 25 minutes later, wounded several firefighters.
George Green, the city's supervisor, said up to 35 people, including seven firefighters, were treated, most of them from nearby Newburgh.
He added that two firefighters were transferred to the burning unit at the Westchester Medical Center, noting that the injuries were not life-threatening.
