Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn told the legal team of President Donald Trump that they would no longer communicate with him about the ongoing investigation into Russia's alleged involvement in the recent US presidential election.
The reporter was interviewed this week, according to a "person familiar with the move" to the Associated Press.
This decision may indicate, according to the agency, the willingness of Flynn to cooperate with the Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller or to his desire to negotiate with him to conclude a deal.
Trump's lawyer Jay Sekolo said the move "was not entirely unexpected" and added that "no one should conclude that General Flynn is cooperating against the president."
Flynn was forced to resign as a national security adviser in February after White House officials concluded it was not clear about the nature of his contacts with former Russian ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak.
Muller investigates Fleen's activities, which include repeatedly communicating with Kislyak, and allegations that he has agreed to receive money before and after the elections to put pressure on Turkey.
The Department of Justice has assigned former FBI attorney and lawyer Robert Mueller to conduct an independent investigation into allegations of Russian intervention in the 2016 presidential election, following Trump's dismissal of former FBI director James Coomy.
